Boasting one of the most prestigious nameplates in automotive history, Mercedes-Benz’s new 2013 SL-Class roadster gets all-new sheet metal, improved powertrains as well as more high-end features and innovations.
In the new SL, the German brand further exploited the use of aluminum in order to reduce the car’s weight by up to 140 kg (309 lbs). Mercedes-Benz also claims higher levels of comfort and sportiness for their new roadster.

The SL 500 gets a 4.7L V8 good for 435 hp, replacing the 382-hp, 5.5L unit in the outgoing model, while improving fuel economy by 22 percent; the 0-100 km/h sprint is rated at 4.6 seconds. The European market will also get a 300 SL, equiped with a 306-hp, 3.5L V6.
In addition to the autodimming MAGIC SKY CONTROL roof that was first featured in the SLK-Class, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class gets two world premieres: Frontbass uses free spaces in the car’s front-end structure for loudspeaker resonance, while the MAGIC VISION CONTROL wipe/wash system which directs washer fluid right above the wiper blade, avoiding a full windscreen spray that disrupts driver visibility. A heated wiper blade will be optional.
